10 – 2 – 0 (10 cases, 2 hospitalizations, 0 deaths) is a decent record so far, but without knowing how many tests produced that result, the numbers are almost meaningless.
We do know the whole New River Valley has generated some 1600 tests total (as of April 23) and that first responders, hospital staff and symptomatic people with Dr.’s orders get tested. Those are the ONLY people tested.
We also know that asymptomatic people can spread the virus and under today’s conditions won’t get tested. And observsedly, few people are wearing masks in public.
So what do we really know? We know the virus is active in Pulaski. We know that wearing a mask protects OTHER people from you and shows YOU care. We know that two people each wearing a mask reduces the risk of community spread to less than 5%. So why aren’t we all wearing masks?
We do know there are 10 reported cases plus two hospitalizations. Do you know the number of ICU beds in Pulaski County? Ventilators? We may be a little remote and slower to catch the virus, but we are more fragile. That’s why it is critical that we scarf up like Jesse James and wash hands. Do it for your neighbor.
