Sheetz buys two tracts on Route 100 in Newbern

Sheetz, Inc. has purchased two tracts of land presumably for a new store off Route 100 in Newbern.

According to the December list of deed transfers obtained from the Pulaski County Circuit Court Clerk’s Office, the purchases were recorded on Dec. 1.

In the largest of the two transactions, Sheetz – based in Altoona, Pa. – purchased 11.89 acres located along Route 100 and to the right of the I-81 Exit 98 ramp, which flows traffic onto Route 100 (Cleburne Boulevard.)

Sheetz paid $1,750,000 to purchase the property from Exit 32 Virginia Real Estate Trust out of Miami, Florida.

The property is zoned commercial and, according to property records, the most recent tax value of the property in 2021 was $594,000.

Sheetz also purchased a second tract with a single-family home located on it adjacent to the larger tract.

The second tract is located on Route 100 and is Lot 6 of the Wilbert Jones Lots at 4365 Cleburne Boulevard.

The second tract sold for $400,000.

As of press time Thursday, Sheetz had not responded to requests for comments or further information.

Sheetz, which opened its first store in Altoona, Pa. in 1952 now has 815 locations in Pennsylvania, North Carolina, Ohio, Virginia, West Virginia, Maryland and Michigan. Their website states the company’s goal is to eventually expand to over 1,000 locations.

Family-owned with over 21,000 employees, Sheetz has locations in this area in Fairlawn, Wytheville, Galax, Christiansburg, Salem and Mt. Airy.

Sheetz stores are open 24-hours a day, 7-days a week offering made-to-order fast food, gasoline and more. Some Sheetz locations are full-scale truck stops featuring laundromats and showers.
