Apco prepares for high winds and possible power outages
CHARLESTON, W.Va., Dec. 18, 2025 – Appalachian Power Company (APCo) is preparing for possible power outages from this afternoon through tomorrow as a storm system moves across its three-state service area.
The company’s meteorology team forecasts a line of showers with wind gusts up to 40 mph later today, Dec. 18. Frequent gusts of 45–55 mph are expected through much of Friday, Dec. 19, with localized gusts as high as 60 mph in southwest Virginia between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m.
High wind gusts can bring down trees and power lines, causing outages and safety hazards.
