Cougars fourth quarter woes raises its ugly head, leads to loss to Buffaloes

Last season the Cougars had trouble finishing games in the fourth quarter. Those fourth quarter woes came back this night as they lost to Floyd County, 51-42.
Down just three points 42-39 with five minutes and thirteen seconds left, the Cougars scored just three points the rest of the game. They had 12 possessions in those five minutes and thirteen seconds. They made one bucket, a layup, with one minute to go in the game. They got fouled on a possession and hit one of two free throws. They committed three turnovers and missed seven shots.
Floyd County (9-0) and ranked as the number two team in the state in Class 2 found themselves down 12-7 after the first quarter, but took a 23-21 lead into halftime. They would lead 40-34 going into the fourth quarter as they played tough defense to pull out the win.
“We just couldn’t make shots down the stretch. We are inconsistent at making shots or as shooters,” said Cougar head coach Anthony Akers.
Floyd County was led by Chaycen Harman with 12 points as he knocked down three threes. Daecan Slaughter had 11 points and 22 rebounds, while Noah Farley scored 10 points and had six assists.
Pulaski County (4-7) got 13 points from Jalere Harlow and 11 from Braxton Merchant. They shot 31 percent from the floor for the contest, but they got out rebounded 44-19 and committed 14 turnovers. They have lost three straight games.
The Cougar JV lost their second consecutive game by losing to the young Buffaloes, 64-61. They were led by Ade Jackson’s 17 points and Braylen Anderson with 16.
Pulaski County will travel to Carroll County on Friday to take on the Cavaliers. JV tips off at 5:30 and varsity tips around 7 pm.
