County to publish list of taxpayers owing 2015 real estate taxes
A list of county taxpayers who owe real estate taxes for 2015 will be published in both local newspapers around the middle of this month.
The Board of Supervisors Monday night approved paying for the list to be published at the request of Pulaski County Treasurer Melinda Worrell.
Worrell said publication of the list each year results in a number of taxpayers paying thousands of dollars in delinquent taxes. The list has been published during the first quarter of the year for several years.
This year, the list will be published in The Patriot on Friday, March 16 and in The Southwest Times on Sunday, March 18.
Supervisors suggested a different twist this year, however.
Supervisors Chairman Andy McCready suggested alerting taxpayers that the list is going to be published in hopes that will spur taxpayers into paying their past due taxes prior to the list coming out in the newspapers.
Worrell and the rest of the board agreed.
The treasurer will provide the newspapers with a list for publication of taxpayers owing 2015 real estate taxes as of the end of the day March 12.
Worrell noted that the publication of the list also serves as the first in a series of advertisements that are required as part of the process she must follow for a judicial sale of property due to unpaid real estate taxes.
