Dorris Tolbert Anderson
April 6, 1938 – December 16, 2025
Dorris Tolbert Anderson, 87, of Dublin, VA, passed away on Tuesday, December 16, 2025.
Dorris was a loving and caring wife, mother, and grandmother, and a proud Dublin Duke graduating from Dublin High School Class of ’56. She spent her working years in the garment industry. She was an excellent seamstress making and mending clothes for family and friends. She was a great cook and an avid reader, and enjoyed listening to music and dancing, especially flat-footing and square dancing. She and her husband belonged to local square dance clubs in the late 70’s early 80’s. She was an original baseball mom keeping the score book for the teams that her husband Doug coached. Dorris was a life-long member of New Dublin Presbyterian Church and a member of the Dublin Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary.
Dorris was preceded in death by her parents, James A. and Beulah Mabry Tolbert, and her husband, Doug Anderson.
She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Alan and Norma Anderson of Dublin, and Daryl and Melissa Anderson of Riner; and by four grandchildren, Bethany and Thomas Anderson of Dublin, and Samantha and J. T. Anderson of Riner.
She is also survived by two brothers, James “Rooster” Tolbert and Wayne Tolbert of Dublin; four sisters, Betty Ann Williams of Greenville, S.C., Mary Jane Ratcliff of Montvale, Evelyn and Harold Handy and Marie and Ronnie Billing, all of Dublin; brothers-in-law, Mel Anderson of Dublin and Leslie and Sally Anderson of Christiansburg; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank N.P. Jill Garrett and the nurses and staff at Highland Ridge Rehab in Dublin for the excellent care that they provided her during her stay there, and to nurse Patti in the medical care unit at Carilion NRV Medical Center, and Medi-Home Hospice.
Services will be held on Tuesday, December 23rd from Mullins Funeral Home in Radford with visitation from 11am until 1pm with services to begin at 1pm with The Reverend Tupper Garden officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Memory Gardens.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, that donations in Dorris’ memory be given to New Dublin Presbyterian Church, 5331 New Dublin Church Road, Dublin, VA 24084.

Doris was a special LADY. I met her years ago at Dublin Garment and always enjoyed seeing her out and about. She was always a delight and cheerful soul. Prayers for all of you who are her family. I know you have been blessed by her presence.

Doris was a sweet lady that I met when I attended New Dublin Presbyterian Church. My prayers to all of the family and friends as they remember her.

So sorry to hear of Dorris’s passing. Always had a lot of fun together when we were in the ladies auxiliary. Danny and I are keeping you all in our thoughts and prayers.
