Fairlawn standoff ends peacefully

On Thursday, June 18 at approximately 5:02 p.m., Pulaski County Sheriff’s Office Deputies responded to the area of 6499 Annie Akers Road in the Fairlawn community of the county. This call was in reference to multiple shots being fired in a somewhat densely populated area.

When deputies arrived on scene, the individual firing the shots, Jeffrey Scott Sims, fled inside his residence and refused to come out. Pulaski County Sheriff’s Office Emergency Response Team responded to the scene in order to establish a perimeter to not only contain the scene, but also to ensure the families and homes of those nearby were protected.

During the course of the incident, Mr. Sims refused repeated requests to come out of the residence. After speaking with Pulaski County Sheriff’s Office negotiators, Mr. Sims surrendered himself and was taken into custody at approximately 8:52 p.m.

At the time of this incident, Mr. Sims was out of jail on a secured bond from charges out of Montgomery County. Charges from Thursday’s incident include Public Intoxication, Reckless Handling of a Firearm and a Capias.

This is an ongoing investigation and no further information will be released at this time.
