Fort Chiswell drops two games in N.C.

Fort ChiswellThe Fort Chiswell Varsity Boys Basketball Team had a tough road trip down in the Carolinas Monday and Tuesday as they dropped two games in the Chick-fil-A Holiday Tournament at North Surry High School. In the first contest against Mount Airy, Sophomore, Owen Jackson poured in 43 points and grabbed 12 rebounds for the Fort for his fourth double-double in a row. Eli Eversole and Kenton Sutphin also had their own double-doubles as Eversole ended the night with 15 points and 12 rebounds while Sutphin snatched 10 rebounds and 10 assists. However, these performances were not enough as the athletic Mount Airy team that posted four players with double figures defeated the Pioneers 81-72 in a contest that featured many lead changes and the Pioneers shooting 9 percent from behind the three point arc.

Fort Chiswell’s second game with undefeated East Surry was more of the same as the Pioneers broke out to an early lead and led many times during the first half but ended tied at 34-34 at half time before FC lost control as the game total foul count was FC 23 and East Surry 11. FC still struggled from behind the 3 pt line going 9 for 33. Owen Jackson led all scorers again in the 75-66 loss with 31 as the beefy Cardinal beat on the sophomore all game. Jackson did get a little more help in the second contest as Kenton Sutphin poured in 15 and Landon Eversole notched 13.

East Surry was led by a balanced attack of Carter Motsinger 14, J.B Davis’s 18, Dennson Badgett’s 18, and Braxton Davis’s13. Fort Chiswell will look to get things back on track as they will match up with Carolina’s East Wilkes on Saturday in their own Christmas Tournament at FCHS.
