Jesse Lee White, III (Butch/Coach), beloved husband of Catherine Cox, passed away on Tuesday, December 12, 2023, with his wife and son, Eric White, at his bedside. Even with exceptional medical care after heart surgery, there was no progress in his medical condition.
Butch taught math for 37 years at Pulaski County High School and also taught math for years at New River Community College. He coached both football and basketball, but his primary interest was his golf team and taking the players to competitions at various courses. Butch was an avid golfer himself and believed in following the rules of golf whether playing with his buddies or playing in competition. Over the years, he has won many golf tournaments. He was well loved not only by family but by his students, golfers, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Elsie and Jesse White, Jr. He is survived by his wife, Catherine Cox; his son, Eric White; stepson, Matthew Cox; granddaughter and spouse, Alexis and Rick Thacker; grandson, Dustin White; and great grandchildren, Adaliz and Beck Thacker. Butch loved his family and his church. He had a strong faith in God.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Greg Beato, D.O. of Medical Associates of Southwest Virginia for his excellent care and availability for Butch.
The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until 12 p.m. on Saturday, December 23, 2023, at Central Church in Radford, located at 8th and Wadsworth St. Memorial services will begin at 12 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to County of Pulaski, Randolph Park, 5100 Alexander Road, Dublin, VA 24084. Please reference PCP and R Golf.
The White/Cox families are in the care of Mullins Funeral Home & Crematory in Radford, Virginia

Our condolences and prayers for the White family. We remember Butch from working with him at PCHS as a fun colleague with a wealth of knowledge of his field. He was an honest and caring man. He will be missed.
