Obituary for Dorothy Price Harrell

Dorothy Harrell

Dorothy Price Harrell, 97, affectionately nicknamed “Boot,” passed peacefully away to be with the Lord, Monday, January 9, 2023, knowing her “Redskins” had beaten the Cowboys. She was born December 10, 1925 in Pulaski County, VA, the daughter of the late Robert Carl & Ollie Mae Hurst Price.
Dorothy was a member of the French’s Chapel Pentecostal Holiness Church. She considered herself a “full time Grandma” and would attend all of her grandchildren’s games, would happily check them out from school to go shopping and kept a candy drawer so there were always treats to be given. She loved baseball and football and was an avid Redskins and Braves fan.
She was the “Facebook granny” who kept up with everyone’s happenings and enjoyed keeping track of her family and friends. She enjoyed making Christmas candy, drinking Mt. Dew, which she may have loved more than her Redskins, and writing birthday “obituaries” for all of her family. She loved to travel and had visited all of the continental U.S. states, collecting the new state quarters along the way. She enjoyed quilting, crocheting and playing guitar. She enjoyed playing card games and UNO with her grandchildren.
She loved watching Westerns, Little House on the Prairie, The Waltons, Bonanza, and playing along with Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy. She kept her Christmas tree up year around and enjoyed decorating it for the different holidays and seasons.
Dorothy lived her life to the fullest to the very end. She loved her family and friends and will be greatly missed by those who loved her.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Russell David Harrell, her son, Charles (“Buck”) Harrell, her daughter, Evelyn (“Peachie”) Martin, her daughter-in-law, Trula Kelly Harrell, and eight siblings, her brothers, John Howard (“Bill”) Price, Robert Carl (“June”) Price, Jr., Charles Douglas Price, Roscoe Jackson (“Jack”) Price, James David Price, Harold Eugene Price, and her sisters, Helen Gladys Brumfield and Goldie Irene Spaur.
Left to cherish the many memories are her son & daughters -in-law, Steve & Brenda Harrell and Reba Stafford Harrell; her son-in-law, William David Martin, I; nine grandchildren and their spouses, Amy Harrell Hall (Dennis), William David Martin, II (Marjorie) and special friend, Michele Edmonds, Melissa Harrell Jackson (Rusty), Patrick Steven Martin (Melinda), Rebekah Martin Lytton (“Cris”), Valerie Harrell Nowlin (Tracy) , Tara Harrell Woodyard (“Buddy”), Amanda Harrell Brown (Montie aka “Bernie”), and Jessica Harrell Woods (Zach); 24 great-grandchildren; 7 great-great grandchildren; her sister, Wanda (“Susie”) Stump, numerous nieces, nephews, special friends and neighbors; and her special pet companion and best friend, “Day Day”.
Funeral services will be held Friday, January 13, 2023 at 2:00 P.M. at French’s Chapel Pentecostal Holiness Church, with Rev. Mike Reynolds officiating. Burial will follow in Eaton’s Chapel Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church Thursday evening, January 12, 2023, from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations be made in Dorothy’s honor to Pulaski County Public Safety, P.O. Box 949, Dublin, VA 24084.
