Wythe County murder victim identified

On January 13, 2023, the Wythe County Sheriff’s Office responded to 403 Saint Paul Church Road in reference to a fire. Deputies and the Rural Retreat Fire Department found a deceased body inside the burned vehicle. Deputies made an arrest and charged Calvin Junior Duncan II DOB 4/10/1989 with First-degree murder, Arson, Possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, Use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, and disposal of a dead body on private property.

The deceased was taken to the medical examiner’s office in Roanoke which has now confirmed the identity of the body. The homicide victim has been identified as Ronnie Lee Akers age 59. Mr. Akers lived at the residence located at 403 Saint Paul Church Road.

Calvin Junior Duncan II is being held in the New River Valley Regional Jail.
