Cougars rout Hidden Valley, 15-5 softball

The Pulaski County Cougars rallied for three runs in the third inning Monday afternoon to take the lead and never looked back, whacking the Hidden Valley Titans, 15-5.
The win upped the Cougars’ season record to 5-4 with Salem coming to PCHS today at 5 p.m.
Monday, Hidden Valley jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning off Cougar starter Laken Greever who was the victim of three Pulaski County errors.
But that was the high-water mark of the game for the Titans as the Cougars cut the lead to 3-1 in the bottom of the first before their three-run rally in the third.
The Cougars added two runs in both the 4th and 5th innings before exploding for a big seven-run sixth for the final, 15-5.
The Cougars got 19 hits and six walks with Sydney Phibbs leading the way, going 5 for 5 with three runs and two RBI.
Victoria Hale and Addison Puckett got three hits apiece. Hale scored three runs and knocked in two, while Puckett scored two runs and knocked in four RBI.
Hale and Puckett each had one-run homers for Pulaski County.
Greever got the win for Pulaski County, going the six-inning distance, allowing seven hits and five runs, but only one earned. She struck out eight.
After today’s game against Salem, Head coach Jeff Linkous’ Cougars will travel Friday to Christiansburg (6 p.m.) before returning home on Monday against Cave Spring (5 p.m.).
