Peterson among 35 students nationally selected for Civics Youth Fellowship

A Pulaski County High School sophomore has been selected among 35 students across the U.S. to participate in the iCivics Equity in Civics Youth Fellowship (ECYF).

Now in its fifth year, the fellowship works with students from across the U.S. to build civic leadership skills and explore how civic education can become more relevant to all youth in the country.

Ellie Peterson, a rising sophomore at Pulaski County High School, was among the 340 applicants this year for the fellowship.

According to iCivics, the yearlong fellowship helps students develop leadership and communications skills in collaboration with peers and experts in the field of civic education.  Throughout the year, students research and explore how civic education can become more equitable for students across the U.S., utilizing their own lived experiences to become ambassadors and shed light on how civic education can include student voices from every background.

The Equity in Civics Youth Fellowship is a paid opportunity for youth to lend their voice to the public discussion on civic education.

Student fellows can expect a commitment of 5-10 hours per month (August 2023 – May 2024) and will include required attendance to iCivics’ in-person gathering in Washington, D.C. in the fall and all virtual meetings throughout the year.

iCivics was founded by the late Justice Sandra Day O’Connor.

Ellie is the daughter of Scott and Keri Peterson of Pulaski.
