Arnold first to file for new 6th District GOP nomination
— Special election to fill vacant 6th District House of Delegates seat set for August 29, 2023; district includes portion of Pulaski County —
Marion, Virginia – Republican candidate Jed Arnold announced he will seek the Republican nomination for the vacant 6th District seat in the Virginia House of Delegates at the Republican Nomination Event.
Governor Glenn Youngkin issued a writ for a special election on Friday August 4, 2023 to fill the vacancy created by the recent resignation of Delegate Jeffrey L.Campbell (R-Smyth). The special election is scheduled for August 29, 2023.
Arnold intends to promptly file the necessary paperwork with the Republican Legislative District Committee once the nomination process is determined and the paperwork is available.
The Sixth District is composed of the counties of Carroll, Wythe and portions of Smyth County. Campbell resigned from the House of Delegates in July. The winner of the called Special Election will serve the remainder of Campbell’s term which expires on January 10, 2024.
“I would like to thank Governor Youngkin for issuing the writ of election. This ensures that the Sixth District will be represented in the House for the rest of Delegate Campbell’s term,” Arnold said. “For the past eight years I have served the Sixth District as Delegate Campbell’s legislative assistant. I am excited and honored for the opportunity to continue to serve the district as it’s Delegate in the House.”
Arnold is unopposed in the upcoming November general election for the newly-drawn 46th House District. The 46th House District includes all of Grayson, Smyth, and Wythe counties and portions of Pulaski County. The winner of the General Election will take office on January 10, 2024.
Arnold, a Saltville native and an attorney with Kilgore Law Office, P.L.L.C., served as the legislative assistant to Delegate Jeff Campbell from 2015 until Campbell’s resignation. He assisted the Sixth District Delegate with bill drafting, stakeholder meetings and constituent services.
Arnold resides in Saltville with his wife, Melanie, and son, Jack. He has been active in youth sports, serving as a volunteer little league baseball coach. Arnold is a 1997 graduate of Northwood High School (Saltville, Va.), a 2003 graduate of Radford University, and a 2015 graduate of the Appalachian School of Law. He and his family attend the Rich Valley Presbyterian Church.
