Business Spotlight: New River Cakes
New River Cakes on Main Street in Radford went under new management back in February when Brenda Mitchell purchased the business from Bob Hopkins.
Mitchell is no stranger to the baking world as she has been baking and decorating cakes for over fifteen years. She started out at the bakery in Wade’s grocery store (Christiansburg and Dublin locations) as well as Grandma’s Goodies, where she then brought her business to West Radford for a while where she made cakes, pies and homemade donuts.
Mitchell later had to close the business down and went to work for the Montgomery County School System.
However, Mitchell never gave up her love for baking and decorating, and when the opportunity presented itself she took a leap of faith, purchased the business from Mr. Hopkins and as they say the rest is history.
Mitchell specializes in birthday cakes, wedding cakes, cupcakes and cake pops. She also makes pies and preacher cookies.
Along with her amazing baked goods, she also offers crafts for sale made by local artisans.
She is now taking orders for pumpkin rolls, pecan pies, carrot cakes and other cakes for the holidays. If you are interested in placing an order for an upcoming birthday, wedding, anniversary, or the holidays contact Brenda at 540-998-9372 or at info@newrivercakes.com, You can also follow them on Facebook at New River Cakes. They are located at 1027 E. Main Street, Radford.
