New River Valley G.O.A.T. Sheep and Goat Festival Returns
On Saturday, September 23, 2023, the New River Valley Sheep and Goat Club will be hosting the Third annual G.O.A.T. [Greatest of All Time] Sheep and Goat Festival from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m at the New River Valley Fairgrounds.
After bringing home the 2023 Outstanding One Day Event of the Year Award at the 2023 Friends of Southwest Virginia Tourism Awards on August 1, the Sheep and Goat Club promises to up the ante by bringing their “biggest and best” event yet right here to Pulaski County.
With over 270 member farms and over 740 members throughout the New River Valley as well as West Virginia, North Carolina, and South Carolina, the mission of the New River Valley Sheep and Goat Club has always been to support and promote agribusiness education and appreciation for the public’s benefit. Founded in 2014, the club hosted its first festival in 2021.
The festival, which was forced to move venues due to an increasing number of festival-goers, has been held at Thee Draper Village for the past two years. In those two years, upwards of 2,000 visitors attended the festival and were greeted by over 150 club volunteers.
This year, the festival will include a variety of attractions including live music; live demonstrations including sheep and goat shearing, goat milking, yarn spinning and dog trials; a petting zoo; kid’s crafts and activities areas; a photo booth; a sheep and goat breed display; artisan, craft and food vendors; educational booths and displays; a prize wheel; and much more.
After two successful festivals, the Sheep and Goat Club is set to host their most exciting event yet. Pulaski County is proud to act as a home for this festival and looks forward to showcasing its thriving agritourism industry at the Third Annual G.O.A.T. Sheep and Goat Festival.
