Obituary for Christopher Aaron Roop
Christopher Aaron Roop, always know as Aaron, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 4, 2023, at UVA Medical Center after a year-long illness. He was 41. Aaron was the son of the late Lisa McDaniel Roop and Christopher Earl (Chris) Roop. While Aaron worked much of his adult life as a pest control technician, his passion was fixing things. His grandmother McDaniel, affectionately called Nanny, remembers him as a child, taking apart things to see how they worked and then putting them back together. He spent many, many hours in his garage working on cars and motorcycles and many more hours reading and learning about them. He totally restored his deceased uncle Mark’s truck, an accomplishment of which he was very proud. He was always ready to pitch in and help friends and family, especially his Nanny and his dad. He loved animals and had at least one pet at all times–but sometimes he had several cats and dogs sharing his world. He was preceded in death by his mother Lisa, maternal grandfather Grover Douglas McDaniel, maternal uncles Mark and (infant) Stephen McDaniel, paternal grandparents Earl A. Roop and Clara “Jewell” Roop, and paternal uncle Billy “Gary” Roop. Aaron is survived by his father Chris, his maternal grandmother/Nanny Linda McDaniel (Arnold Davis), as well as paternal uncle Joseph Roop (Diane) and paternal aunts Catherine Roop (Gary), Linda Phillips (David), and Sabrina Bishop (Shannon) and several paternal cousins; maternal aunt Angela McDaniel and cousins Ethan and Brayden, great aunt Yonna Graham, great uncles Larry Hash (Gloria), Bobby Hash (Teresa) and maternal great aunts Mary Alice Whisenant (Buck), Carol Hodge (Ted), Rebecca Zandvliet (Peter) and numerous other maternal cousins; former wife Elizabeth Turpin; very special friend Chrystal Goldsworthy McLucas; and very close cousins and neighbors Tammy and Kenson Lunsford. Also surviving is his last remaining pet, his much-loved dog Skeeter, who will now go to live with a friend.
A memorial service for Aaron will be held at Dublin Presbyterian Church on July 21 at 11:00 AM. NO FLOWERS, please. In lieu of flowers, his family asks that you make a donation to our local SPCA or Humane Society in memory of Aaron.
