Obituary for George Robinson “Robin” Hunt, Jr.

George Robinson “Robin” Hunt, Jr. of Oakley, UT, passed away peacefully on August 14, 2023.  Born the eldest of five children to Martha and George Robinson “Bob” Hunt on September 8, 1929 in Cincinnati, Ohio.  Growing up Robin lived in many states which led him to Dublin, Virginia where he met his wife of 69 years, Jane Jackson Hunt.

Robin received his Bachelor of Science in Building Construction from Virginia Polytechnic Institute (Virginia Tech) Blacksburg, Va.  He served in the U.S. Navy from 1948-49 as a fireman apprentice in the engine room of aircraft carriers.

In Robin’s early career he worked for Robert E. McKee General Contractors, Inc. for which he was part of building the Salt Palace (1967-69) in Salt Lake City, Utah. Robin was a talented builder and obtained a great deal of experience, not only with Robert E. McKee, but through a variety of positions with several corporations across many states:  Dravo Cooperation, Pittsburg, PA; Stone and Bester Engineering Corporation, Boston, MA; Foster-Creighton Constructors, Nashville, TN; J.A. Jones Construction Company, Charlotte, NC; Radford Arsenal, Radford, VA; E.J. Albrecht Construction Company, Cario, IL; and Strum and Dillard Construction Company, Columbus, OH.

Robin loved Utah where he enjoyed snow skiing, woodworking, golf, collecting miniature trains, traveling, construction, raising Llamas and sailing his Hobie Cat.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Jane Jackson Hunt, parents, George and Martha Hunt, sisters, Lee Hunt “Boo” Quinley, Mary Hunt Frazier, and brother Pete Hunt.  He is survived by his sister, Fontaine “Bits” Hunt Copelin, and three nieces, Trish Davidson (Lane) of Minden, Louisiana, Cindy Viers (Kenny) of Dublin, Virginia and Alice Taylor (Sammie) of Russellville, Tennessee.
