Obituary for Leonard Myrl O’Dell Sr. (Sonny)

Leonard Myrl O’Dell Sr. (Sonny) was 84 when he passed away Thursday, September 14, 2023 at Skyline Nursing Home in Floyd, Va. He was born June 3, 1939 in Pulaski, Va. To Bentley Turman O’Dell and Mary Magdalene Hurst.

 

Sonny grew up on Max Creek in Hiwassee Virginia till he was 15 and moved to Rockville Md. Where he worked in the Steel Industry and started his own Construction Co. He married and raised his family for 25 yrs. In 1981 he moved back to Hiwassee, Virginia with his wife and worked construction, retiring from Branch and Associates.

 

Sonny was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Lillian Pauline (Polly) O’Dell, father – Bentley Truman O’Dell and Mother Mary Magdalene Hurst, brothers – Marvin, Elmo (Froggie), Arless (Buddy), sisters – Virginia, Ishmael and Rita.

 

 

Sonny is survived by his

 

Daughter – Theresa A. O’Dell

 

Son – Leonard M. O’Dell Jr. (Rusty) – Tania

 

Grandchildren –

Ashley Amann – Todd, Cody O’Dell – Brittany, Misty Hernandez – Hector

 

Great Grandchildren – Noah, Joseph and Nicholas
