Couple allegedly steals 31 cans of baby formula
From Pulaski Police Department
On Dec. 17, 2022 at approximately 11 a.m., a male and female entered Food City in Pulaski and stole 31 cans of Similac baby formula.
The female entered the store and sat in a motorized shopping cart and the male accompanied her to the baby formula aisle.
The male and female loaded the shopping cart basket full of formula, then the female placed all the cans of formula down into her skirt.
Both suspects then exited the store.
The suspects left in a 2009 Kia Sedona with Virginia tags: TUN4446. These tags came back to an address in Baltimore, Md.
The suspects were involved in an attempted shoplifting in Radford.
We have received information that this is a possible theft ring involving numerous Food City stores throughout the state.

I can speculate on multiple explanations as to why no one tried to stop them.
The first one that comes to mind is that the onlookers did not have the courage or inclination to step in or get involved. We all know of those kind of stories that go on in the big cities, such as women being raped while people walk by. Absolutely shameful.
The second one that comes to mind is that customers may not have noticed it going on, and the employer may very well have a policy that prohibits employees from interceding when they observe theft, since the suspects may be armed or physically assault their accuser. In other words, it may be a policy to keep employees safe, such that Food City accepts the reality that there is a certain amount of shrinkage in retail, so it is simply one of the expenses of doing business.
Of course, their losses are simply passed along to the rest of us in the form of higher prices, or else, the shareholders get a lower return on their investment. Either way, it is regrettable and unjust, but simply a fact of life.
