Republican gubernatorial candidate Ed Gillespie speaks to supporters Saturday morning during a campaign rally at the Pulaski County Visitors Center.
Gillespie’s appearance in Dublin was one stop along a campaign swing throughout Southwest Virginia.
Following remarks in Dublin by Gillespie, Del. Nick Rush and Pulaski County Supervisor Joe Guthrie – Gillespie’s campaign coordinator in the county – the candidate went on a tour of the Korona candle factory in the county’s industrial park.
Gillespie is a former chair of the Republican National Committee, a post which he held from 2003 to 2005. He was the Republican candidate in the 2014 Virginia Senate election. In that race, Gillespie lost to incumbent Democratic Senator Mark Warner by less than one percent of the vote.
In addition, Gillespie was previously a high-level aide to President George W. Bush.
